Our Team
Meet the Founders
Sam has a Computer Science degree from Rotterdam University and over 10 years of software development experience. He's created both commercial and open-source projects, working on everything from user interfaces to backend systems.
As co-founder of Pangaia Software, Sam leads the development of MAITO's technology and ensures the software is intuitive and reliable.
Anna holds a Master's degree in Arts & Culture from Groningen University. Her background in cultural analysis and digital media helps her understand how people interact with technology.
As co-founder, Anna ensures that user needs guide our development process and shapes our vision for creating tools that are both accessible and affordable.
Our Journey
Pangaia Software started in January 2024. We needed a better way to translate lots of documents, but existing tools were either distracting, didn't protect privacy, or both.
With Sam's software development background, we built a solution for ourselves. Soon we realized others might find it useful too.
Today, we create translation tools that respect your privacy, work offline, and don't require expensive subscriptions.

The Beginning
We started with a simple tool that used DeepL's translation service. It worked well, so we added more features: document preparation, expense tracking, and website translation.

Building MAITO
Initially, we planned to use only DeepL for translations. But we realized this meant users would need a DeepL account, share their payment details, and accept that their translations might be used to train DeepL's models.
For many professionals and privacy-conscious users, this wasn't acceptable. So we explored other options and found several open-source translation models. We optimized and integrated these alongside DeepL, giving users the freedom to choose the translation method that works best for their needs. - 3
Today and Beyond
Local AI translation is still new, but MAITO makes it simple to use. We handle all the technical complexity so you can focus on your work. We envision a future where everyone can access powerful translation tools without sacrificing privacy or breaking the bank. We're just getting started.

Rather than making grand claims about changing the world, we focus on creating tools that solve everyday problems. Small challenges deserve good solutions too.

We only build tools we use ourselves to solve problems we've actually faced. We don't create products just because they might sell well or look impressive. Understanding a problem firsthand is essential to building the right solution.

Don't reach for the stars
While some companies aim to build the next tech giant, we focus on solving real-world problems that people face every day. We'd rather create a genuinely useful tool than chase unicorn status.

Keep it real
We believe in making tools accessible to everyone. Rather than charging high prices to a few customers, we prefer to keep our products affordable so more people can benefit from them. We also believe in transparency - that's why we created a guide showing you how to verify our privacy claims yourself.
