Quick solutions to the most frequently encountered problems
Installation Issues
MAITO won't start
Solution: Verify your system meets requirements (Windows 10.0.19041.0+, x64 architecture). Try running as administrator by right-clicking the MAITO icon. If issues persist, reinstall MAITO. MAITO requires .NET 10.0, which is usually installed automatically.
Model loading failed
Solution: Verify sufficient disk space (models need 2-8GB) in Settings → Translation → Storage Info. Restart MAITO completely (including system tray). If the model is corrupted, delete and re-download it from Settings → Translation → Available Models. Check that antivirus hasn't quarantined .onnx files.
License validation failed
Solution: For trial users, the 14-day period may have ended - purchase a license to continue. For licensed users, check your internet connection (one-time validation required) and verify your license key was entered correctly. Contact support if the issue persists.
Translation Issues
Translation quality is poor
Solution: Ensure you've selected the correct source and target languages. Local AI engine works best for general content, while DeepL engine excels at technical documents. For specialized content, consider which engine best suits your needs. Check that you're using the appropriate source language rather than auto-detect for better accuracy.
PDF formatting is lost after translation
Solution: MAITO offers two PDF approaches: For preserving formatting, use the Documents page with DeepL engine (direct document translation). For privacy-focused translation, use text extraction (drag-drop PDF to Text page) which extracts and translates text but doesn't preserve PDF formatting. Choose based on whether you need formatting or privacy for each document.
DeepL API errors (Invalid Key, Quota Exceeded)
Solution: For "Invalid API Key", verify you copied the complete key including `:fx` suffix for Free plans. For "Quota Exceeded", Free plan users have used their 500,000 monthly characters - wait until next month or upgrade to Pro. Check your DeepL billing and payment method for Pro plans.
Performance Issues
Translation is very slow
Solution: Local AI translation speed depends on your hardware. For optimal performance, ensure your system meets recommended requirements (Intel i7, 32GB RAM, NVIDIA RTX 3060 or equivalent). Close other resource-intensive applications. MAITO automatically optimizes for your available memory. For faster cloud-based translation, consider using the DeepL engine for non-sensitive documents.
High CPU/memory usage
Solution: During local translation, high CPU (50-100%) usage is normal. With a model loaded, 2-4GB memory usage is expected. If usage seems excessive, check that no translations are running in background, restart MAITO, close other applications, and update to the latest version.
MAITO freezes or hangs
Solution: Wait 30 seconds first - model initialization and large text processing can pause the UI temporarily. If unresponsive, force close via Task Manager and relaunch. For persistent issues, try clearing cache (Settings → Advanced → Clear Cache) or reinstalling MAITO.
